“Hellraiser” – Khoi’s posthumous album shrouded in mysticism

Read Time:3 Minute, 39 Second

“Raised from Hell” is the album of the band “Sector Gaza”, the last work of Yuri Klinskikh (Khoya). It is called the most mystical album in the history of the band. It was released 13 years after the band’s creation, and it is their 13th album and contains 13 songs. Adding to the mystique is the rumor that Klinskikh rushed to release the album because he had a premonition of his death.

How the album was created
Record a new conceptual album Yuri Klinskikh planned a long time ago. “Sector Gaza” released “Hellraiser” (the album was originally planned to be called “Poor Yurik”) after three years of silence.

“Hell Rising” is a Gaza Strip album that combines heavy rap, metal, and mysticism. It was a work in progress from the fall of 1998 to the spring of 2000. It was the embodiment of Hoy’s aspiration for a heavy sound. In the process Klinskikh uses modern primots, sequencer, mixes the sound and arranges the songs.

The last album of “Sector Gaza” – record with the best sound and recording quality in the history of the team. Moreover, this is the album with the most mystical songs. It even squeezed out the supernatural “Evil Dead” of 1990.

Recorded “Sector Gaza” album “Hellraiser” at the studio “Gala Records”. The record came out in two versions – full and abridged. The latter does not have the tracks “Burnt Witch” and “Dead in the House”. Due to the high price, the sellers mainly bought CDs with 11 compositions, which are spread till now.

Yuri Klinskikh planned to shoot a video for the song “Night of Fear”. But before the filming (04.07.2000) he passed away. Later, the fans of Khoy’s creativity created a fan video based on the material that Sector Gaza had managed to record (“Hellraiser” includes video works in parallel with the recordings in the studio).

Musical Mystique
The work of the band “Gaza Sector” “Hellraiser” is an album with a single concept. All compositions are united by the style of horror-punk. The only exception is the song “Demobilization”. It has a different sound, traditional for the band. Yuri Klinsky was offered to include it on the next album, but he wanted to include this track on the band’s 13th album, saying that he might not release any more records.

The rest of the songs are imbued with a common theme. Ghouls, devils, ghouls and witches “haunt” the listener. And “Hellraiser” is the album that presents them with a classical country humor, peppered with foul language, as well as unflattering pictures of vampire feasts, people-eating and decomposing corpses.

Gaza in “Hellraiser” does not deviate from “blackness” even in those compositions where there are no direct references to the undead. The songs “Country Toilet” and “Wedding” seem to be absolutely out of line with the general theme. But white heat and mundane death are presented as variations of the darker sides of life.

In contrast to the stylistics, this album does not boast genre unity. But that’s to the good. Rap-core (“Vampire Slayers”), rap-metal with banter (“Horns”, “Wedding”), chamber compositions (“Hellraiser”, the song “Holy War”), ballads (“Love Afterlife”) are intertwined here.

In this album of the band “Sector Gaza” the influence of foreign rock monsters and folklore can be clearly traced. For example, “Demobilization” is recorded with the lyrics of a folk song, “Rustic Toilet” features the riffs from “Not Promised Tomorrow” by Stuck Mojo, the lyrics of the ballad “Burnt Witch” are a free translation of “Melissa” by Mercyful Fate, the motive for “Fright Night” was taken from Insane Clown Posse by Khoi.

Goddamn song.
“Hellraiser” is the song that became the thirteenth song on the album. Its motif is taken from the track “13” by L.U.N.G.S.

The lyrics of the song “Hellraiser” depicts the struggle of light and darkness. Some attribute the composition to the Clive Barker film of the same name. But the similarities begin and end with the title.

Also widespread anti-Soviet interpretation. They say that “Hellraiser” is a song that denounces the Soviet system because of the audible in the background “Internationale”.

In fact, the lyrics of “Hellraiser” were inspired by the biblical ideas about the end of the world. At that time the world was shaken by another religious panic about the approaching apocalypse on the eve of the new millennium.
