Over 44 independently run camps and counting who are members of the Girls Rock Camp Alliance can access vital funding through Girls Rock Camp Foundation, supporting camp development and making the camps more accessible to girls from all economic backgrounds.  Gifts to Girls Rock Camp Foundation have nationwide impact, reaching camps from New York City to Baton Rouge and ensuring support for big city and rural camps alike.

Founded in 2014 by a group of musicians and music industry professionals, GRCF aims to engage the creative community and those who love music in supporting the Girls Rock Camp movement. We believe that everyone benefits when girls’ voices are a loud, vibrant part of music and culture, and we provide simple, effective and fun ways to participate in making that a reality.

Girls Rock Camps began popping up in 2001, offering girls a fun, supportive, accessible environment to learn about music. The basic premise is that girls learn an instrument and form a band with other campers over the course of a camp session. They create an original song with the band which they get to perform at a live music venue at the end of camp- usually their first rock show ever, and an absolute blast for campers! The earliest camps were in Portland, OR, Brooklyn, NY, and Murfreesboro, TN, but the idea was so well-received that it quickly spread across the US and into Europe and South America. Programming at many camps has been expanded to include year-long after school programs, holiday programming, overnight camps, and internship programming. Not limited to rock, camps include everything from rock to hip-hop, jazz to folk, pop to punk. Many Girls Rock Camps also feature DJ camps, music video production, recording and engineering classes, lighting and sound design, music journalism, music business basics, and more.

Through lessons, mentorship, positive examples, and the shared experiences of the staff and volunteers, Girls Rock Camps demonstrate that every genre of music, from the heaviest to the most delicate, and every technical job and creative endeavor in the music industry is available to any girl or woman who wants to explore it. Girls learn to find and amplify their creative voices in a fun, supportive environment, building confidence that extends to every area of their lives. Creating leadership opportunities and fostering teamwork through collaborative musical endeavors, Girls Rock Camps help build crucial life skills and self-esteem.

By teaching girls that they can be just as comfortable on the stage as in front of it, Girls Rock Camps give girls powerful tools for developing new ideas about who they are and what they can become- in music and beyond.
